3D Interrelationship between Osteocyte Network and Forming Mineral during Human Bone Remodeling

نویسندگان

چکیده

During bone remodeling, osteoblasts are known to deposit unmineralized collagenous tissue (osteoid), which mineralizes after some time lag. Some of the differentiate into osteocytes, forming a cell network within lacunocanalicular (LCN) bone. To get more insight potential role osteocytes in mineralization process osteoid, sites formation three-dimensionally imaged nine human osteons using focused ion beam-scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). In agreement with previous observations, mineral concentration is found gradually increase from central Haversian canal toward pre-existing mineralized Most interestingly, similar feature discovered on length scale than 100-times smaller, whereby increases LCN, leaving around canaliculi zone virtually free mineral, size decreases progressing mineralization. This suggests that LCN controls but not just by diffusion precursors, would lead continuous decrease LCN. The observation is, however, compatible codiffusion and reaction precursors inhibitors matrix.

interrelationship between radiographic findings of hands and bone mineral density in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

introduction: rheumatoid arthritis (ra) is the most common autoimmune joint disease. osteoporosis is a well-known consequence of ra. objective: the aim of the present study was to determine the interrelationship between radiographic findings and bone mineral density (bmd) in patients with ra. methods: 70 patients with established ra (according to 1987 acr criteria) were included in a cross-sect...

The Osteocyte Syncytium in Healthy and Pathologic Human Cortical Bone

INTRODUCTION Until recently, an osteocyte was defined as an “osteoblast that is embedded in bony tissue and which is relatively inactive” [1]. Recent studies implicate an active role of this cell in mechanotransduction and functional adaptation of bone tissue [2,3]. The osteocyte lies within a space referred to as a lacuna and its cell processes are contained within long cavities called canalic...

Osteocyte-specific WNT1 regulates osteoblast function during bone homeostasis.

Mutations in WNT1 cause osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) and early-onset osteoporosis, identifying it as a key Wnt ligand in human bone homeostasis. However, how and where WNT1 acts in bone are unclear. To address this mechanism, we generated late-osteoblast-specific and osteocyte-specific WNT1 loss- and gain-of-function mouse models. Deletion of Wnt1 in osteocytes resulted in low bone mass with sp...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
